Built to Last, If You Look After It
Underneath the leather and the extra sound deadening, a Lexus shares a great deal with Toyota. That's good news for owners: proven engines, robust drivetrains and parts that are easy to source.
It also means many Lexus jobs are familiar ground for us. The difference is in the detail. These cars carry more electronics, more comfort features and, on many models, a hybrid system that needs a mechanic who understands it.
Whether it's an LX470 that has towed a caravan around Australia or a late-model RX hybrid on its first few services, the approach is the same: follow the schedule, explain what we find and quote before we start.
Lexus Servicing
A Lexus under its new-car warranty doesn't have to go back to the dealer for scheduled maintenance. Australian Consumer Law protects your choice of workshop, as long as the book intervals are met with suitable parts. Every Lexus service we do is written up in the logbook.
- Your model's schedule, by months and kilometres
- The thin synthetic oil grade Lexus calls for
- Hybrid battery cooling intake checked and cleaned
- Engine and inverter coolant levels inspected
- Brakes measured and calipers checked for sticking
- Itemised invoice with what we found
Lexus Models We Look After
LX470, LX570, LX600
Closely related to the LandCruiser of the same era. Height-control suspension and heavy towing loads deserve regular checks.
RX
The best-seller. Many are hybrids, with the petrol V6 versions just as common on older examples.
NX
Turbo petrol and hybrid versions. Brakes and tyres wear quickly on heavier variants.
IS
Rear-drive and well balanced. V6 and V8 performance versions appreciate quality oil on time.
ES & LS
Quiet, comfortable cruisers. Hybrids are common, and so are very high kilometres.
UX
Small, efficient hybrid that mostly needs routine care done properly.
Servicing a Lexus Hybrid
Lexus hybrids are famously reliable, but they have a few items a petrol-only car doesn't. Most are simple, they just need to be on the checklist.
Battery cooling
The hybrid battery breathes through a vent and filter that can clog with dust and pet hair.
Inverter coolant
A separate cooling loop for the power electronics, with its own service interval.
Brakes
Regenerative braking means pads last longer, but calipers and sliders can seize from lack of use.
12-volt battery
A weak small battery stops a hybrid from starting, even with a healthy main battery.
Lexus Repairs
Looked After Properly
“After the initial inspection, everything was explained to me prior to the work being carried out. They didn't overcharge for unnecessary extras, which is a breath of fresh air in the auto service industry.”
“They got the car in for a major service at a short notice and replaced the rear tyres and brake pads and had the car back within a couple of hours.”
“Great service from Stephen. Great workmanship from the team. Fair pricing and and a job well done.”
Lexus FAQ
Will servicing my Lexus here affect the warranty?
No. You're free to use an independent workshop. What matters is that the scheduled maintenance is done on time with appropriate parts, and we record it in your book.
Do you work on Lexus hybrids?
Yes. Routine hybrid servicing, such as cooling intakes, inverter coolant, brakes and the 12-volt battery, is all part of what we do. If a hybrid-specific fault needs specialist equipment, we'll tell you upfront.
Is an LX470 much like a LandCruiser to service?
Mechanically, yes, they share a lot with the 100 series LandCruiser. The LX adds height-control suspension and extra luxury features, which we check as part of the service.
How often does a Lexus need servicing?
Each model has its own interval in months and kilometres. Mention the year and model as you book, and we'll work out which service is next.
