Looking After an Adventurous Brand
Few brands inspire as much loyalty as Jeep. Wrangler owners modify, explore and tinker; Grand Cherokee owners tow boats and caravans in comfort.
Both put loads through components that a typical city SUV never troubles: solid axles, transfer cases, steering dampers and big tyres. A Jeep service here covers the usual engine items, then spends proper time underneath.
Jeep Repairs
Wrangler steering shimmy?
Solid-front-axle Jeeps can develop a violent shake after hitting a bump at speed, nicknamed "death wobble". It's usually traced to worn steering or suspension parts, and it needs fixing, not just a new damper.
Steering components
Track bars, tie rods, ball joints and steering dampers inspected and replaced.
Diesel systems
DPF and EGR warnings on diesel Grand Cherokees diagnosed.
Axle & diff leaks
Seals and covers that leak after hard off-road use.
Brakes
Heavy wagons and big tyres are tough on pads and rotors.
Cooling
Radiators and hoses checked before summer towing.
Jeep Models We See
Wrangler
Often modified. Steering, suspension, driveline oils and larger tyres all need watching.
Grand Cherokee
V6 petrol or diesel tow vehicle. Brakes, cooling and diesel emissions parts are common jobs.
Cherokee
Family SUV with on-demand 4WD. Routine servicing and driveline fluid checks.
Compass
Smaller, mainly suburban. Oil changes, brakes and tyres keep it in shape.
Gladiator
Wrangler-based ute. Tray loads add rear suspension to the checklist.
Jeep Servicing
New Jeeps can be serviced here throughout their warranty. The legal requirement is simple: Jeep's maintenance schedule kept, and parts of appropriate quality fitted. We do both as standard.
- Engine oil to Jeep's specification
- Front and rear diff, transfer case checks
- Driveshaft joints greased where fitted
- Steering and suspension inspected for play
Off-road regularly? Our 4WD servicing adds checks for water crossings and sand.
Jeep Checks & Inspections
Modified Wranglers can be brilliant or a box of problems. A pre-purchase inspection looks at the quality of modifications, steering wear, axle leaks and underbody damage.
Post-Trip Checks for Your Jeep
Back from Lancelin, the Pinnacles or a weekend on the Canning tracks? A short list worth working through, or booking us for:
- Rinse sand and salt from the underbody, springs and brakes as soon as you can
- Check diff and transfer case oil for a milky look after any water crossing
- Feel for new play or shimmy in the steering on the drive home
- Inspect the air filter for dust that slipped past a seal
- Look over tyres for sidewall cuts from rocks and stumps
- Return tyre pressures to road settings before highway driving

Jeep FAQ
What causes Jeep death wobble?
It's typically worn or loose front-end components such as the track bar, ball joints or tie rod ends, sometimes combined with tyre balance or alignment issues. Replacing the steering damper alone rarely cures it.
Can you service my modified Wrangler?
Yes. Lift kits, larger tyres and aftermarket bumpers are common. Let us know what's fitted so we allow time to check it properly.
My Grand Cherokee diesel has a DPF warning. What now?
A sustained highway drive may clear it. If the light persists, book in and we'll check the filter data and related sensors.
Will servicing my Jeep here affect its warranty?
No. Jeep's intervals done properly, using parts of the right standard, is all the law asks.
Should I service my Jeep more often if I go off-road?
Often, yes. Handbooks usually list shorter intervals for severe use, which includes dusty tracks, sand, towing and water crossings. We can help you work out a sensible schedule based on how you actually use the vehicle.
