Why Suzuki Owners Keep Their Cars for Years
Suzuki builds light cars with uncomplicated engines, and that's a big part of why so many owners hang onto them. Look after the basics and they keep going.
The Jimny is the standout. It's a proper little 4WD with a separate chassis, solid axles and low range, which makes it far more capable off-road than its size suggests. It also means it needs more than a basic oil change, especially if it spends time on the beach or in the bush.
Then there's the Swift, from the everyday hatch to the turbocharged Swift Sport, plus the Vitara and S-Cross SUVs that plenty of Perth families rely on.
Suzuki Servicing
A new Suzuki doesn't have to visit the dealer to keep its warranty. Independent servicing is protected under Australian Consumer Law, provided Suzuki's schedule is followed with parts and fluids of the right standard. We note every visit in your logbook.
- Suzuki's schedule for your model and kilometres
- The oil grade your engine is designed for
- Jimny diff and transfer case oils on schedule
- Air and cabin filters swapped when they're due
- Brakes and tyres measured, not guessed
- Logbook updated and an itemised invoice
Suzuki Models We Look After
Jimny
Three-door and five-door. Ladder chassis, live axles and low range that all need checking after off-road trips.
Swift Sport
Light and turbocharged. Fresh oil on time and healthy brakes keep it sharp.
Swift
Cheap to run and easy to maintain. Tyres, brakes and routine servicing are most of it.
Vitara
Petrol and turbo versions, some with AllGrip all-wheel drive.
S-Cross
A roomy family option. Suspension and brakes see the most wear.
Ignis & Baleno
Small, simple runabouts that reward basic care done properly.
Looking After a Jimny
Jimnys get lifted, fitted with bigger tyres and driven through sand, mud and water. All of that is what they're built for, but it adds jobs a normal car never needs.
Diffs & transfer
Gear oils changed on time, and sooner after water crossings.
Steering wobble
Solid-axle front ends can shake after lifts or larger tyres. Tie rods, damper and balance get checked.
After the beach
Salt and sand get washed off underneath and the brakes inspected.

Suzuki FAQ
Do I have to take my Suzuki to the dealer to keep the warranty?
No. You can use an independent workshop. As long as scheduled servicing is done on time with appropriate parts, your warranty stays intact, and we stamp the book every time.
Does my Suzuki have a timing belt?
Most current Suzuki engines use a timing chain, but some older models used a belt. Your service book, or a quick look under the bonnet, will confirm which yours has.
My Jimny shakes over bumps at speed. What is it?
On a solid front axle, that's often worn steering components, a tired steering damper, out-of-balance tyres or loose suspension parts. It needs checking rather than ignoring.
Can you service a Jimny that's been modified?
Yes. Lifted Jimnys with bigger tyres, bars and drawers are welcome. Tell us what's been fitted so we can check it properly.
