Honda Ownership, Made Easy
Honda owners often keep their cars for a long time, and with good reason. A well-maintained Jazz or CR-V can comfortably reach big kilometres.
The catch is that some Honda maintenance items aren't on every other brand's list. Certain engines schedule a valve clearance check, some V6s use timing belts, and many recent models run a CVT. We know what applies to which model and plan your servicing around it.
Honda Servicing
Under Australian Consumer Law, your new Honda can be serviced by any qualified mechanic without voiding the warranty, provided the schedule is followed with suitable parts. Here's what we pay particular attention to.
Oil & filter
Correct low-viscosity oil for i-VTEC and turbo engines.
Valve clearance
Checked and adjusted on engines whose schedule lists it.
CVT & auto fluid
Inspected or changed at the listed interval.
Records
Service book updated and maintenance minder reset.
Popular Honda Models
| Model | What we commonly do |
|---|---|
| CR-V | Family SUV servicing, CVT checks, brakes and tyres |
| Civic | Routine servicing; turbo models appreciate on-time oil changes |
| Jazz & City | Simple, economical maintenance and brake checks |
| HR-V | Small SUV servicing and CVT fluid where listed |
| Accord & Odyssey | Larger cars; some V6 versions need a timing belt at the listed interval |

Honda Checks & Inspections
Check the history
Ask whether the timing belt (if fitted) and CVT fluid have been done on time.
Hoist & scan
Our pre-purchase inspection looks underneath and reads stored faults.
Ongoing care
We keep the service history so the next visit picks up where the last one left off.
Honda Owner Tips
A few habits make a real difference to how long a Honda stays sweet. None of them cost much, and most take a minute.
- Trust the Maintenance Minder. Many Hondas show a percentage and a code instead of a fixed date. When it drops towards 15 per cent, it's time to book.
- Be gentle with a cold CVT. Easing away for the first few minutes is kinder to the belt and pulleys inside.
- Stick to thin oil where specified. Engines designed for 0W-20 run tight clearances, and thicker oil can upset the variable valve timing.
- Listen for valve tick. A light ticking from the top of an engine with adjustable valves can mean the clearances need setting.
- Keep belt receipts. On a V6 Accord or Odyssey, proof of a timing belt change adds real value at sale time.
- Watch for slow starts. Small Honda batteries work hard in summer; a quick test is cheap insurance.

Honda FAQ
Does my Honda need a valve clearance adjustment?
Some Honda engines list a valve clearance inspection in the schedule. Your service book will say, or we can look it up from the model and year.
Which Hondas have a timing belt?
Some V6 engines in models like the Accord and Odyssey use a belt. Most four-cylinder Hondas from recent years use a chain. We'll confirm for your car.
Will a service here void my Honda warranty?
No. We follow the manufacturer's schedule with appropriate parts, which protects your warranty rights.
My Honda's maintenance minder shows a code. What does it mean?
The codes refer to particular maintenance items due. Bring the car in, or tell us the code, and we'll explain what's required.
Is my Honda hybrid serviced differently?
The petrol engine still needs oil, filters and plugs at the listed intervals, and the brakes, coolant and 12-volt battery all get checked. Hybrid-specific items depend on the model, so tell us which one you have and we'll confirm what the schedule includes.
