Still Plenty of Life Left
General Motors retired the Holden brand in Australia in 2020. For owners, that mostly changed where you take the car, not whether it's worth looking after.
Parts for common models remain available through a range of suppliers, and a well-maintained Commodore or Colorado can keep going for a very long time. Eoin's SV6 wagon is proof: he had its 250,000 km service with us, then drove it to Karratha and back.
Without a dealer network to fall back on, a local independent who knows these cars is the obvious choice.
Sourcing Holden Parts
We source parts for your Holden from a mix of suppliers, and we'll tell you upfront if something needs ordering in, so there's no surprise wait once the car is apart.

Three Holdens, Three Happy Owners
“My SV6 2012 Holden Commodore Wagon was due its 250k full service. … Since the service I've drove to Karratha and back for work and I was getting 7/800kms from a full tank of 95 fuel. The car runs even smoother than before.”

Holden Models and Their Common Needs
Commodore
VE and VF models are still daily drivers. Some 3.6 V6 engines are known for timing chain wear, so a rattle at start-up deserves attention.
Colorado
Diesel workhorse. Fuel filters, diff oils, CV boots and, on later models, the DPF all need regular care.
Captiva
Family SUV that's often on its second or third owner. Brakes, suspension and fluid condition are the usual focus.
Cruze & Astra
Popular first cars. Cooling system checks and on-time servicing go a long way.
Trailblazer
Colorado-based seven-seater, sharing many of the same service items.
Older Holdens
VT, VX, VY and VZ era cars still turn up. Rubber, hoses and cooling deserve a close look.
Holden Servicing
With most Holdens now out of their original warranty, servicing is about reliability and resale value. We follow the original schedule where it's known and adjust it sensibly for age, kilometres and how the car's used.
Kenneth's Captiva had its service plus new brake pads and discs in the same visit. Combining jobs like that saves you a second trip, and any extra work is always priced and approved by you first.
For the full checklist see regular maintenance services.
- Oil and filter to suit your engine, petrol V6, V8 or diesel
- Coolant condition and hoses, important on ageing cars
- Brake pads, discs and fluid measured and reported
- CV boots, steering boots and suspension bushes inspected
- Battery and charging tested
Holden Repairs
Timing chain noise
Diagnosis on V6 Commodores and others where a start-up rattle points to chain wear.
CV boots & joints
Split boots replaced before grit destroys the joint, as on Alex's Colorado.
Brakes
Pads, discs, calipers and fluid for every Holden model.
Fuel economy
Heavy fuel use investigated, from tired plugs to sensor faults.
Leaks
Oil, coolant and power steering leaks found and fixed.
Holden Checks & Inspections
Used Holdens are often good buying, but history varies widely. Our pre-purchase inspection covers engine noises, cooling, transmission behaviour and rust before you hand over cash. Planning a long drive like Eoin's? Ask for a pre-trip check.
Holden FAQ
Can I still get parts for my Holden?
For popular models like the Commodore, Colorado and Captiva, yes. Parts come through various suppliers, and we'll source what's needed and let you know of any delays.
Is it worth repairing an older Commodore?
Often yes, if the body and drivetrain are sound. We'll give you an honest view of what it needs and whether it's worth the spend.
My Colorado's DPF light keeps coming on. Why?
Usually too many short trips for the filter to regenerate. We read the data, check sensors and suggest ways to keep it clear.
Do you service Holden V8s?
Yes, V8 Commodores and utes are welcome.
