From Falcon to Next-Gen Ranger
Ford's Australian line-up has changed a lot over the past twenty years. Locally built Falcons and Territorys gave way to imported Rangers, Everests, Escapes and Mustangs.
That spread means very different needs. A turbo-diesel Ranger that tows has more in common with a LandCruiser than a Focus. An older Falcon wants a mechanic who still remembers how they go together.
Paul's review of his Ranger Wildtrak service ended with three words: "A great find!" We'd like every Ford owner in the area to feel the same.
Popular Fords and What They Commonly Need
| Model | Typical use in WA | Things we keep an eye on |
|---|---|---|
| Ranger | Work ute, towing, touring | Diesel fuel filters, DPF health on later models, brakes and rear springs under load |
| Everest | 7-seat family 4WD | Driveline oils, brakes on a heavy wagon, diesel emissions components |
| Falcon | Sedan, ute, ex-fleet cars | Cooling system, suspension bushes, ageing rubber and hoses |
| Territory | Family SUV, still common | Suspension and steering wear, brakes, fluid condition |
| Focus & Fiesta | Small car, first car | Some PowerShift dual-clutch automatics were known for shuddering, worth checking when buying |
| Mustang | Weekend V8 or EcoBoost | Tyres, brakes and correct oil for a performance engine |
Ford Servicing
A new Ranger or Everest can be logbook serviced at our workshop without affecting its warranty. The law only requires the manufacturer's schedule to be followed using appropriate parts, which is exactly how we work.
- Ford service schedule followed and recorded
- Oil to Ford's specification for your engine
- Fuel filter and water trap on diesel models
- Tow bar and trailer wiring looked over on request
Out of warranty? A regular maintenance service keeps older Fords dependable.

Ford Checks & Inspections
Buying a used Ranger?
Ex-work utes can hide hard lives. A pre-purchase inspection checks the chassis, springs, driveline and service history before you commit.
Regular check-ups
Sticking to the service schedule means Ranger and Everest wear gets spotted early.
Getting More From a Diesel Ford
Modern Ford diesels are strong performers, especially under load. To keep them that way, give them a regular highway run so the particulate filter can regenerate, change fuel filters on schedule, and let a hot turbo engine idle briefly after a hard tow before switching off. If you've fitted a lift, larger tyres or extra weight, mention it when you book. Those changes affect braking, steering and how quickly suspension parts wear.

Ford FAQ
Can you logbook service a new Ford Ranger?
Yes. Your Ranger gets every item on Ford's list for that interval, the right fluids, and a stamped book to prove it.
Do you still work on Falcons and Territorys?
Absolutely. Plenty are still on the road around Perth and they respond well to proper maintenance.
My Ford Focus automatic shudders when pulling away. Can you look at it?
Yes. Some Focus and Fiesta models with the PowerShift dual-clutch gearbox are known for this. We'll diagnose it and talk you through the options.
Can you check my Ranger before a big towing trip?
Yes. We'll look at brakes, suspension, cooling, tyres and tow gear. See 4WD servicing for what's covered.
Is the older 3.2 litre Ranger still worth servicing properly?
Definitely. The five-cylinder PX Rangers are still working hard all over WA. Regular oil and fuel filter changes, a healthy cooling system and attention to the rear springs help these utes keep going for a long time.
